Microsoft has 12 new security fixes headed your way on August 12. Their upcoming Security Bulletin includes 7 rated “Critical” and 5 rated “Important”. The underlying vulnerabilities run the gamut of products, including Windows, Internet Explorer, Access, Excel, Powerpoint, Media Player, and Outlook Express.
For the non-geeks among you, please do us all a favor and make sure you have Automatic Updates” turned on. The underlying complexities of Windows operating systems and associated applications means the “patch, rinse, and repeat” treadmill will never slow down. Consider moving to an OS that's just as robust but not nearly as complex, like Ubuntu. I realize that everyone wants a nice, powerful machine to browse the Internet, use email, and view millions of videos on YouTube. My grandmother wanted a way to get to the grocery store, too. We just didn't send her in an Apache helicopter.
