Security Focus details how David Maynor, chief technology officer at Errata Security, has grown tired of having his credit card data stolen, so his company is taking the matter into their own hands.
They are releasing the Barrier toolbar, a browser add-on that will check websites for possible security issues, such as old version numbers of the web server software and content management system to ensure there are no "obvious flaws."
Obviously, the information you glean from using this toolbar might not help you confirm that the site is secure, but at least you'd have a clue that it might be vulnerable. I'm assuming here you've already ditched Internet Explorer for Mozilla Firefox with the NoScript and WOT extensions added. If you are still on IE, you need all the help you can get.
