BackTrack 3 has been out since mid-June, and it's another in a series of upgrades to the popular security toolset. Originally a merging of the popular WHAX and Auditor Security Collection tools, BackTrack 3 adds the SAINT vulnerability scanner and Maltego open source intelligence and forensics application. Nessus is missing from this latest release, apparently because BackTrack did not want to upgrade their version of the Linux kernel. BackTrack is a great suite of security and penetration testing tools that can either be run as a Live CD, or in my case, loaded onto a bootable USB stick that can easily travel with me wherever I go.
