Having attended the quaint university tucked away in the Nittany mountains, I'm always pleased when Penn State makes the news. Bringing back the woolly mammoth by using data from its genome sequencing sure beats yet another story on whether JoPa will be booted after the season ends.
Be not alarmed, conspiracy theorists and madscientistphobics - it will probably be impossible to actually build one of these creatures in the near term. The work being performed by the Penn State researchers is foundational in nature, and if successful, might pave the way for future eggheads to scrape up some moldy DNA and whip up a long-extinct creature or two.
One advantage of having a woolly mammoth farm instead of succumbing to the Alpaca craze is the size of the beast. The article points out that 400 people could eat for weeks on the carcass of the 6-8 ton animal.
Woolly mammoth - it's what's for dinner. And breakfast. And lunch. And dinner. And breakfast......
