FiveThirtyEight.com has some reflections of the grassroots Obama folks they met while traveling through the Troy and Tipp City areas in Ohio, locales that are notoriously Republican that went heavily for George W. Bush in 2004.
What they found was a splendid example of previously solitary voices that found a common platform around which to unite and push out a group message that has continued to bring new people into the fold. I think this is living, breathing proof of why Obama leads McCain here.
An example: Sue stressed to us that while the campaign gives them reference material along with literature, the language they use to talk to their neighbors is their own. "We're just who we are," Sue says. Unscripted works best. "I live in Tipp City, and I'm a volunteer," she emphasizes to folks at their doors.
