U.S. Supreme Court Rules Against Ohio GOP

You've got to admire how much voting suppression spunk the Ohio GOP has had over the years, and they've been pretty successful. Looks like this year might end their streak.

The U.S. Supreme Court has overturned a lower court ruling that required the state to share information about voter databases with county election boards.

Before this ruling, Democrat Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner faced a deadline of today to set up a system to give the names of newly registered voters whose driver's license numbers or SSNs on their registration forms didn't match similar records in other government systems to local elections officials.

Ohio Republicans said this information would prevent voter fraud, while Brunner opined that this was another case of the GOP trying to disenfranchise voters. I've written about these voter suppression and GOP fear techniques before, like here and here. Some of the frustration that's leaking out of the Republican side of the house has to be the result of tried and true methods losing their effectiveness, which results in letting every person who wants to vote actually vote, and then counting every single vote from every registered voter.

When that happens, it can't be good news for the GOP. But the Supreme Court has spoken.
