The Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) has filed suit against George W. Bush, the National Security Agency, and other individuals over the illegal surveillance being conducted of American citizen's telephone and Internet traffic. (Full disclosure - I'm a member of EFF.)
The EFF claims that the surveillance program is a “massively illegal fishing expedition through AT&T’s domestic networks and databases of customer records.”
The Bush administration, of course, states that the surveillance is a cornerstone of their war on terror, and that their goal is to prevent terrorist attacks, not invade American's privacy.
Throughout history, citizens have always had more to fear from their uncontrolled, over-reaching governments than they have from threats beyond their borders. It's time to put some checks back in place.
