The Johnny Cash Project

A crowd-sourced video/art/music effort, the Johnny Cash Project allows fans and artists to submit their own drawings of Cash that are integrated into a single music video.

The results are both impressive and touching.

Lego Porn

Yes, Lego porn.

I'm not kidding.

Might not be safe for work, unless your job involves adult movies or building things as part of a work-release program.

Fascinating. Many more interesting facts turned out in visual form.

Sculptures in Motion

I've always appreciated art forms that don't require a lot of heavy lifting on my part to understand what the artist was trying to say.

Does that make me art lazy?

Peter Jensen does some fascinating sculptures that appear to capture a split second in time. This appeals to me not only from a visual perspective, but also because I enjoy the concept of time and various ways to interpret and use it. In college, I wrote a three-page paper that detailed a single event that encompassed 9.8 seconds.

I'm guessing that's why I'm blogging and not writing for some famous publication now.

Not Fooling Anybody - New Uses for Old Buildings

Neatorama has the skinny on an interesting website named Not Fooling Anybody that's chock-full on new businesses that have taken up residence in buildings formerly used for other purposes. Various levels of hilarity ensue.

Like this example - a former Planet Hollywood that found new life as a Gino's East pizza parlor.

They should have kept the tyrannosaurus. Who doesn't like deep dish dino?

Ink Calendar

The Ink Calendar will be a fantastic idea as long as the ink refills aren't priced by the same folks that put computer chips in your inkjet printer cartridges so that they can lock you in to high-priced replacements rather than lower-priced refills.

Wall 'O Outlets

Realizing that Americans are on the downward slope of rampant consumerism, now might not be the right time to market an "Outlet Wall", but I appreciate both the art and the practicality of having lots of places to plug in your numerous electronic devices.

Cable management has always been a problem, and with the introduction of home audio/visual systems, plasma televisions, and all sorts of cable (or satellite) boxes plus components, it hasn't gotten any easier.

Somehow I think even poor cable management would present a better visual than seeing all of your power cords hanging down, but I've never been accused of having a primo artistic eye.

Photographs Steal Smiles

I'm a firm believer that the universe only gives us so many smiles to dole out, and I don't want to waste any of mine fake-grinning for pictures - much to the disdain of the crazy picture lady who is the love of my life.

She's forever lamenting the fact that I dislike smiling for photos. Actually, she would tell you that it's more that when I know she's pointing the camera my way, I deliberately suck the emotion out of my face.

There is now a collective body of evidence that I'm not unique in my aversion. Happiest People Ever is a site chock-full of dour photographic expressions and Kodak intolerance.

Non-smilers of the world unite!

Slap Your Face on a Sawbuck

This is pretty funny. No wonder workplace productivity is in the dumper.

Have you noticed that American currency is pretty boring compared to paper money around the world?

Spam as Art: Who Knew?

I've often wondered about Flergicous Q Public when he emails me to point out my small penis, lack of lovemaking skill, and crappy mortgage.

Apparently my car warranty is about to expire, too. Sighs.

It's nice to see lemonade being made out of the sweet, sweet citrus fruit of my shame.

Elliot Burford is an artist who has created some pencil art using spam email titles as his inspiration. While some are pretty freaking dark, dude, most are just plain hilarious.

Unless you can't get it up with your girlfriend or know someone who hails from Nigerian royalty.

Arm Slings as Accident Art

BoingBoing has the details on arm slings that are accident-explanatory. Tired of telling everyone you bump into how you hurt yourself? One of these slings will do the trick nicely, thank you.

I can foresee some injuries that are best left unspoken, so perhaps a generic line of "broke my elbow bailing out of a flaming jet fighter" slings could be launched as a sort of accident alibi.

Eye Lamp

This is one creepy piece of wall art.

Turn it on, and the "lids" open to shine the bright light on you. Want it a little dimmer" Turn it down, and the "lids" partly close, giving you an evil illuminated stink eye.

This gives new meaning to the phrase, "I know art when I see it."
