My friend and excellent Jew Stef called this evening to ask if I was aware of the push polling directed toward Jewish voters that was going on (I was) and she suggested I write about it (I shall).
Seems the Republican Jewish Coalition really wants John McCain elected, so much so that they don't mind risking a trip to purgatory if it accomplishes their goal.
The purpose of the push polling is to instill fear and doubt about Obama in the minds of Jewish voters, and since accurately portraying his views and policies would have the opposite effect, the RJC decided to lie. The concept here is to ask prospective voters how they would react to negative statements about Obama. Topics include alleged praise for Obama from a leader of Palestinian terror gang Hamas, and a 20 year old friendship with a pro-Palestinian professor.
It's the same tactic Karl Rove used in the 2000 primary against McCain, where South Carolina voters were asked if their opinion of McCain would change if they knew he had fathered a black child out of wedlock. He hadn't, but the message was planted. McCain lost, badly.
Some who have received the push polling call, including Stef, are pretty upset about the tactic, calling it ugly, outrageous, and disturbing.
Do you really want to elect a party that can't win on the issues? I mean, if you can't beat the Democrats, how can you defeat terrorism, the Russians, or the French?
My question for you, the reader, is this - if it didn't work, they'd stop doing it, so why does it influence everyone so much? Are we really that dumb?
